Me, this space, February 21:
Second, as Pat Buchanan has so ably pointed out, the Democrat
Party Superdelegates are not the kind of people that like to
ride to the Alamo. In other words, to avoid hurt feelings,
especially this year with their racial base coalescing behind a
black candidate, the superdelegates will vote with the majority
of primary votes and caucus-goers, even if they by themselves
don't get Obama to 2,025.
I'm beginning to have second thoughts, but for the same reason.
Don't forget that the Alamo was two things: First, it was a
fight between the Texas separatists and the Mexican Army. Second,
it was a huge defeat for the Texas separatists.

thus a movie that showed gay people as normal suffering human
beings is something that a real American like John Wayne would
be disgusted with.

Jurors to begin deliberations next week in Alamo trial
Alamo's detailed account about the shooting death of Hasty
completed testimony in the case. Jurors next week will begin
deliberating Alamo's fate.
Unlike the previous day's testimony, which
reduced most people in the courtroom to tears, Alamo calmly
answered questions from Deputy District Attorney Lester Fleming.
"At the time you pulled the trigger, did you intend to kill Mark
Hasty?" the San Joaquin County prosecutor asked.
"No I didn't," Alamo, 48, replied.
Fleming pressed further, getting Alamo to acknowledge that he'd
pointed the gun at the man's chest.
Until a few days before the shooting, Alamo and Hasty had lived
in the same neighborhood east of Highway 99 but never knew one
another. Then, as rural burglaries increased, the Alamo Alarm
Company owner began investigating them, saying Sheriff's
deputies were stretched too thin and weren't dedicating enough
time to finding the suspects.
The night before the shooting, Alamo was conducting surveillance
when an alarm went off and he tracked the suspects to a vehicle
parked at the Hasty home. Sheriff's deputies arrived, then
returned to the Hasty home the next day.
In the meantime, a neighbor had told Alamo that, years earlier,
Hasty had been accused of stealing pumpkins, then arrested when
deputies found marijuana plants on his property.

The Russians, out of ethnic solidarity, territorial ambition.

sent their troops into South Ossetia. After some shots were
fired along the disputed border, the Russians went
into Georgia and - while occupying parts of the country -
are forcing the Georgians to negotiate.
Everyone I'm reading is trying to draw some parallels
from European history, but breakaway regions full of
ethnic outsiders who came from the larger power on their border,
and then ask the bigger power to use border disputes
to force their annexation, always calls to mind something else.
Think 1845. if you read "Texas" for "South Ossetia";
"the corrupt and inefficient Santa Ana government"
for "Georgia" and "James Knox Polk" for "Dmitry Medvedev",
you probably won't be too far off.
A word of waring though. If my Texas analogy is even
slightly valid, the Russians may be in for trouble.

But for the sake of Mother Russia stop and think of the future.

Do you remember when there was a violent separatist movement
there?
I had been trying, mentally, to make just exactly
that happen.
I had said that our government had been reckless in trying
to drive wedges, sew ethnic conflicts, and help orchestrate
the breakup of the former Soviet Union. To put things into
perspective,I said, imagine how the U.S. would feel if Russians
tried to break up the U.S. by spurring separatist movements
in Texas or Alaska. Then, I tried to work my usual
voodoo, to demonstrate it. When it started, and when the
paper quoted a government official saying that they were
trying very hard to make sure that no one got hurt,
I said "Oh, no there has to be a martyr to the cause.
Someone must die, there". And then, of course, someone did.

Jesus addressed their accusation of Him being demon possessed
because the only unpardonable sin was to blaspheme the Holy
Spirit by claiming the miracles Jesus performed were done by the
power of Satan, which is what these people were doing. But let'
s listen again to His answer to their intended racial insult in
saying He was a Samaritan:
"I don't have a devil, but I honor my Father and you do dishonor

Did you notice? What a mature man Jesus was! Jesus didn't even
acknowledge their intended racial insult! Not a word about them
calling Him a Samaritan. Why? Because in the end, it doesn't
matter, God created all people, including the Samaritans, and
the mestizos, and the mulattos and the coyotes and the zambos,
and He loves them all, and for His lost sheep among them Jesus
laid down His life. It does not matter.
Furthermore, although Jesus was a Jew among Jews, the One God
endorsed as the Jewish Messiah when the Holy Spirit landed on
Him in the shape of a dove, and though King David was a Jew
among Jews chosen by God to be the first divinely chosen king of
the Jews, the prostitute Rahab who was a Canaanite was in their
genealogical line, and Ruth who was a Moabite, yet having these
non Hebrew ancestors in their genealogical line did not take
away from their Jewish identity, they were still Jews among Jews.
Similarly, although some of the descendants of the Spaniards who
colonized Northern New Spain, including Texas and the American
Southwest, have some Indian ancestors in their line, it does not
take away from their Spaniardness, as the mestizos who moved
north were diluted into the majority Spaniard population. And
then again, the fact is that in Northern New Spain, the white
population did not intermarry very much.
In fact, Robert Tarin, whose family owned land around the Alamo
at the time of the fall of the Alamo and who is a descendant of
the Canary Islander founder families of San Antonio, found
traces of this Jewish Q Haplogroup in a sample of Texas

While not an unbeliever in the paranormal I have always been
skeptical of any phenomena that I have not personally
experienced myself. I have from time to time, had experiences
out of the realm of "normal" or coincidence. This story is a
recording of the first that I have experienced first hand that I
cannot logically explain any other way than a haunting of some
sort.
We drove 2 hours from our home to stay at a friends hunting
cabin in Goliad Texas.
I shared the story with a friend and she said that sometimes
when a tornado hits or just before it sounds like a train. There
was a major tornado in the general area in 1902 that killed over
100 people.
According to Wikipedia the Goliad Tornado is on the top ten list
of deadliest tornadoes in America.

films about an unpopular war. Perhaps the emergence of a new
hero may do the trick
Why is this so? Persuading audiences to flock to a film about an
unpopular war is obviously difficult. Comparisons with Vietnam
don't really work. Television coverage of the Vietnam war was so
intensive that Hollywood did not bother to make many films about
it while it was going on. (John Wayne's "The Green Berets" was
released in 1968 as a corrective, it was hoped, to the TV
coverage that was turning the country against the war.) But,
with Iraq, that situation is reversed.
